COMPAREE VERDICT

Re:Mix is a rare thing: a household appliance designed from the start to be fixable and modifiable, with design files published under a share-alike licence. Right now you can print the body and start collecting parts, but the blender head — motor, blade assembly, control board — is not released until summer 2026, so this is not a build you finish this month. When those files land, you will still need to source a motor, bearings, a blade, and figure out the electronics yourself, because there is no BOM or assembly guide yet. The difficulty rating assumes you are comfortable reverse-engineering a mechanical assembly from CAD and dealing with mains-voltage motor control. If you have never wired a motor or designed a PCB, this will be a long learning project. The target audience is someone who wants to prove that kitchen appliances do not have to be throwaway, and who is willing to wait and improvise to make that point. The one thing most likely to go wrong: you print the body, collect parts, then realise the head files still are not enough to build from and you are stuck debugging a high-speed rotating assembly with no reference implementation.

KNOWN ISSUES

  • The blender-head files — motor, blade, electronics — are not released yet. You can print the body now, but you cannot finish the build until summer 2026 unless you reverse-engineer the mechanical and electrical design yourself.
  • No bill of materials, no assembly instructions, no firmware. When the head files arrive, you will still be sourcing parts and figuring out the electronics from CAD alone.
  • Mason-jar threading is specific — check that the jars you have or plan to buy match the thread spec in the CAD before printing.
  • High-speed rotating blade assemblies are unforgiving. If the motor mount or bearing alignment is off by a millimeter, the blender will vibrate, overheat, or worse. Test-run the assembly at low speed before blending anything.
  • If you wire a mains-voltage motor yourself and have never done it before, this is not the project to learn on. A loose wire in a kitchen appliance is a serious hazard. Use a low-voltage DC motor and external supply if you are not confident.
  • The licence is share-alike (CC BY-SA 4.0). If you modify and distribute the design, you must release your changes under the same licence. If you are building this to sell modified units, read the licence terms carefully.

Can I build the whole thing now?

No. The body files are released, but the blender head — motor, blade, control board — is scheduled for summer 2026. You can print the body and collect jars, but the build stalls there until the rest is published.

What motor do I need?

Not specified yet. The head files will show the mounting and power requirements. Expect a small universal motor or brushless DC motor in the 300–500 W range based on typical blender specs, but wait for the official release before buying.

Is there a BOM or assembly guide?

Not yet. The repository currently has CAD only. When the head files arrive, you will likely still need to source parts and figure out assembly from the 3D models.

Can I sell blenders built from these files?

Yes, the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence allows commercial use, but you must share any modifications under the same licence and give attribution. Open Funk also sells the complete product, so you would be competing with the original maker.

Why mason jars?

They are cheap, standardised, widely available, and you already own them. You blend directly in the jar, then screw on a lid and refrigerate. No separate jug to wash.

The body CAD is confirmed public; the head assembly is explicitly scheduled for summer 2026, meaning this is not a complete build yet. No BOM, no assembly guide, no firmware were mentioned in any source. The mason-jar threading is a clever detail, but also means you need to check compatibility before printing.
